Partner School

Putnam Elementary

Our church has been supporting Putnam Elementary with special event volunteers, classroom help, appreciating teachers and funding supplies and programs as needed for over 17 years because this student body faces the highest economic and equity need of all elementary schools in our City.

You must be registered and pass a simple background check before volunteering.

In addition, please fill out our Putnam Elementary Volunteer Interest Form so someone can contact you.

If you have questions, email Janet Krech

Putnam Elementary Volunteer Opportunities

LEGO lovers/techies! Volunteer for LEGO robotics club - After school clubs are starting up, and our church is leading a LEGO robotics club, featuring Crazy Carnival Games, Quirky Creations, and Happy Travelers lessons for 11 students in grades 3-5. Tuesdays/Thursdays 3:00 - 4:45 from January 20 - March 12

Library Help Needed
Due to cuts in funding, Putnam no longer has a librarian, and the technology specialist works only 3 hours per day. Putnam's library books could be used more if we provide volunteers to check out the books. As of now, classes have asked for times on Tuesday and Friday afternoons between 12:30 and 2:45 pm. Let's get a cadre of volunteers so it's not too much work for any one person! Volunteers must register and be background checked before serving.

Early morning support for Coffee Cart
Putnam hopes to honor paraprofessional staff the morning of February 5. We have traditionally done made-to-order coffees for about 25 people. Looking for friends with espresso/nespresso shot makers and milk frothing and heating capabilities, as there is no stove in the teacher's lounge. Last year we met at 6:30 am to get this going, and we had breakfast muffins and biscotti too. THEN, on Monday, February 16, there is a meeting at 8:30 am where they have asked us to provide coffee, tea, and a small amount of OJ for 75 teachers and staff. The teachers are providing food for each other as part of a pot luck. If you can help with either/both mornings, please let Janet K. know.

Jog-a-Thon October TBD from 1:00-3:00 pm – Volunteers help fill and refill cups of water for thirsty elementary runners, and possibly tally laps on runners’  bibs.

Vision and Hearing Screening October TBD 8:30-11 am – About ten volunteers are needed during this timeframe to test kids’ hearing or vision, and volunteers receive a quick training at 8:30. Other volunteers help guide kids to the next station, collect paperwork, or encourage quietness during hearing tests.

Lunchtime Run Club is starting up again soon from 11:45-12:45 on Thursdays and Fridays.  Kids run laps and you tally them or scan their tags on a computer and reward kids with beads to put on a chain for each 5 miles they run.

Scholastic Book Fair Date TBD- Putnam Elementary students have $7 of free credit to spend at their book fair. Volunteers help them find books within their budget. Last year the shifts were Thursday from 9-11 or 12:30-2:30 or Friday from 12:30-2:30.

Please contact Janet Krech with your interest or to sign up to receive emails for other opportunities.

Reminder - You must be registered and pass a simple background check before volunteering.
