America From the Ashes 9/11 Memorial Quilt

Join us for a meaningful and moving Quilt Therapy gathering on Tuesday, May 19, from 1:00–2:00 PM in the Village Commons Room. We are honored to feature Donna Litt’s “America from the Ashes”—a powerful September 11, 2001 Memorial Quilt—presented in recognition of the 25th anniversary of that day. This extraordinary, one-of-a-kind quilt stands as a tribute to resilience, remembrance, and healing.

Handcrafted with 3,063 red, white, and blue blocks, the quilt commemorates each life lost in the attacks on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and American Flight 77. Over time, it has grown to include deeply personal memorabilia—patches, pins, charms, pilot wings, and more—from first responders, military members, police officers, firefighters, medical personnel, K-9 handlers, and others whose lives were forever touched by that day. Among these items is even a watch stopped at 8:46 AM, marking the moment history changed. Each stitch and every piece tells a story—of courage, sacrifice, and enduring hope.

Though the quilt is fully booked for September, we are privileged to share it with our community in May, a time when we honor those who serve and support our nation.

Come experience this remarkable work of art and reflection. All are welcome.
