Days for Girls

For the last ten years, a dedicated group at First Church has been busy making well-designed, reusable Days for Girls menstrual kits (www.daysforgirls.org) which have been distributed all over the world, including Kenya, Lebanon and the Sudan. To date we have made well over 15,000 menstrual kit components: drawstring bags, carry pouches, liners and shields. Since each kit includes 12 made components, this is the equivalent of providing over 1250 women and girls period products that will last up to 4 years each!

In addition, due to generous donations, we have sponsored over 1000 kits made at a DfG enterprise in Nakuru, Kenya. These kits have been provided to girls in local schools and orphanages. Without DfG’s support, many girls would be unable to attend school and women would lose jobs.

Our DfG team is growing, and we’d love to have you join! If you are interested, please contact DaysforGirls@FirstChurchFC.org. We need sewists as well as people who can serge, cut materials, wash/iron and more. You may work from home or join us at the church during our regular sewing sessions (2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 9:00 am to noon in The Parlor).
